Recommended by Daniel Walton

A study into the economic and political successes of nations across the globe, as well as the mistakes that less successful nations have made. The argument, above all, is that inclusive political structures motivate economic development, and that the most sustainably rich nations are those that involve the citizenry in political decision-making. The most poignant counterexample may be China, which has grown rapidly without any expansion of democratic systems. Acemoglu and Robinson believe the Chinese system is doomed to fail, but as of late the cracks are not yet emerging.
