We don’t often take our gut instinct seriously, but it’s time that we do. That’s the message Gladwell tries to get across in Blink. Gladwell tells a series of intriguing stories about moments where people have made decisions in a blink – some life-changing. In his quest to demystify intuitive thinking, Gladwell goes behind the scenes of the work of a psychologist who can predict whether a marriage is doomed, the tragic shooting of Amadou Diallo by police, the failure of ‘New Coke’, and more.
What you can appreciate from this light read is Gladwell’s knack for storytelling. His findings on our intuition may not sit well with hard-line advocates of deliberative decision-making, but they at least encourage us to revisit what drove the split-second decisions we’ve made in our own lives so far.
